History UPMC
Under my banner of 1895 and in principled fashion handsomely — if not even abundant — was created the journey of UPMC (University of Pittsburgh Medical Center), where we stand today, the pioneering of health care in the United States.
The Montefiore Hospital was established in 1908 by the Hebrew Ladies Hospital Aid Society for the health needs of Pittsburgh’s Jewish community, serving the same purpose in today’s diversified population.
For a decade Dr. Albert Haines recognized the needs of the South Hills community and toiled to bring a hospital to the area. By 1949 the need for a larger facility was needed and one opened on Heckel Road in 1949, allowing for more access to health care, due to the growing community.
Forbes Hospital came about in 1972 after several mergers between some of the local hospitals including the Pittsburgh Hospital and Columbia Hospital. It was built on Haymaker Road in Monroeville.
In 1973, the South Hills Health System was formed and renamed Jefferson Regional Medical Center. This was part of UPMC’s ongoing growth in services throughout the greater Pittsburgh region. Additionally, the University of Pittsburgh sought an individual to help promote the WPIC to a position of national prominence.

UPMC rehab center is among the popular health insurance providers in the state of Pennsylvania, which also covers treatment for one’s mental health. This often includes therapy and counseling sessions. In your desire to receive therapy under the UPMC Health Plan, it becomes important to understand how much you are going to pay for such therapy and what is included in your coverage:
- In-network therapy sessions. The in-network therapist, via UPMC Health Plan, costs a co-pay per session.
