History NYSHIP
In 1957 New York State Health Insurance Program (NYSHIP) was formed to cover New York State employees, retirees, and their family’s health care needs. It has grown into one of the nation’s most prominent public employer health insurance programs in the years since. NYSHIP is managed by New York’s State Department of Civil Service and the division of Employee Benefits provides a variety of health plans including the famous NYSHIP Empire Plan.
The NYSHIP Empire Plan mental health serves over 1.2 million enrollees today, making it one of the largest, and most well-known, public health insurance programs in the country. NYSHIP has partnerships with over 800 different local government employers to provide extensive coverage of healthcare to its members. The beneficiaries will be able to access these care leaders’ healthcare providers, such as Anthem Blue Cross, UnitedHealthcare, and Carelon Behavioral Health to ensure access to quality healthcare service in a wide network.
