Why Does OCD Attack What You Love?

Normally OCD targets what is most precious to us; its presence makes life unbearable. This is because OCD often extends on and interferes with our most basic principles of belief. Unfortunately, for many of the clients, OCD seems to focus on the very areas that one would want to shield or protect the most, coming with various forms of doubts and anxieties. This disorder, as it were, feels at which points one has to be attacked to unleash insecurity and the resultant fear.

This confrontation with their values often makes a person doubt the most significant aspects of life and question their own beliefs. However, it is precisely this uncertainty that ultimately becomes part of the therapy: Rather, they are tormented by doubts and accept this state while trying to tolerate the “what if,” questions.

What is more important when it comes to working with OCD is the acceptance of the uncertainties. This is a challenging route but by becoming comfortable with this uncertainty, one can only get his/her life back. This means the probability of the fact that one day you would act contrary to your values, or the opposite. People need bravery and strength to make such a critical shift in mindset so they can accept that it is impossible to be one hundred percent sure how things will turn out in a given circumstance.
